Woodrow Wilson said “I am, in every thought of my heart yours.”
Hermann Heese said “If I know what love is, it is because of you.”
And I say……
You and I took a special chance
the first time we met…
you knew enough about love,
and life, to understand that
two people don’t fall in love,
they grow into it slowly—-
you had been hurt before
by feelings that seemed too easy
they came and they went…..
but there was something between us
from the beginning, a special but unique harmony
that made you realize it was time
to take that special chance……..
You and I took a special chance
the first time we fussed….
you told me to leave you alone
but I just knew there was something more
so feeling hurt and sad,
I came back again which
lead us to both apologizing
in our own special way
it was at this time we saw disagreeing
over such a small manner,
that our relationship was worth more….
than anything that might come between us.
and after that very first time
we knew what we had together
would hold us close during
those hard times that would come.
we knew the hard times made us
appreciate the good times
that would come,
because we took that chance……
You and I took a special chance
for you it was when you said, I love you
the first time so long ago
for me it was when I said I do
but we knew in the future we would share
stormy times as well as the sunny ones,
laughter and tears, some dreams
that came true others just faded away
always to be memories in our hearts
we knew our love deserved effort
we knew it would take time
but we knew our love would allow
us to fulfill a life together…..
for we took a special chance……
and we have a special love…
one that allows you to be you
me to me and us to be us
together we will grow old
because we took that special chance
together……..

I love you Carl, thank you for being all you are but most of all for accepting me for who I am…..and loving me enough to stand by my side. You understand when I do wrong even when you do not approve, you realize just what it meant when we took that special chance.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
My friends may your day be special as well but today here it was all about the one who took the special chance—-years ago with me.

It’s interesting to read something like this and see my brother from such a different perspective. Back in the days when you and he were first dating, everyone didn’t have their own cell phone and all, so everyone in the house had to fight over one phone line. Since I was a teenager then, the phone was truly my friend. I hadn’t had to fight anyone over the use of the phone much until Wayne (yes, that’s what his side of the family calls him) met and started dating you. I can remember fussing at him to use the phone during the day and save the evenings for me to use the phone to talk to my friends. I knew you must be really important to him because he basically just ignored me and talked to you whenever he wanted to. You and he do have your “moments”, but there has never been any doubt from day one that the two of you adore each other and would always be there for one another. Sorry if I have rambled here, but I just wanted to mention this things to you. I’m glad to hear your mom is adjusting well to the nursing home. I’m keeping you in my thoughts with your battles with Missy. Oh yes, and of course, I keep that brother of mine in my thoughts as well. Give him and ole Smoltz a hug for me.

You’ve reminded me, Vickie, that great relationships start with but one step, with two people taking that chance, making themselves a little vulnerable, stepping into the unknown…
I remember what it felt like when I met the woman who would become my wife. All those years later, I still smile when I think of this feeling. I’m glad she thought I was worth the chance.
