Call from a dear old friend today | Filed under General

Today, I was very pleasantly surprised to receive a call from the creator of this blog, Vickie . Her & I met on yahoo chat in 1999. We quickly became very special friends. We both have had some extraordinary challenges with our health. I have Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy. Vickie has been a true inspiration for me. She gave me good heartfelt advice & encouragement at a time when I truly needed it. Back in ‘99, I was laid off my job of 19 years at Hewlett-Packard. This was the point at which I had to face my disability & apply for SSDI. Fortunately I was awarded my benefit with no delay! In addition to the dystrophy, I have a congenital heart defect known as Tetralogy of Fallot. I have now had 3 surgeries to repair my heart, the most recent being a pulmonary valve replacement September of last year. I look forward to sharing here. Even when I’m feeling down about my health, I need only look to friends & family for encouragement. Vickie, your timing today was perfect. SO happy to be back in touch!

George, It has always been my pleasure to have played a small part in your life at one of your more difficult times. I believe people come into our life for a reason and I came into your life at that time to help inspire and motivate you making your transition easier. Today when you shared just how much it meant when I called that difficult day warmed my heart just as reading this surprise post from you did. Just ask my friend Karen if I was not surprised—-she can tell you of the tears of happiness I had when I read it to her.

Well here you see what happens when you reach out and touch that old friend you might have thought off but just not taken the time to. I’ll be staying in touch with George and his family and I encourage you to reach out and touch someone.
