Shimmy D. Biegeleisen
September 11, 2001 is etched in my heart and soul as it is in most, It is the date I was waiting in the Medical Center of Central of Central Georgia Heart waiting Room as my Dad was undergoing procedures. It was also the day the world changed. Yes it was not just America that was affected but the world was affected on that day in a very short time span. So many have been and are still being was deeply affected with the losing of loved ones that day. Today as part of the 2,996 Memorial I want to honor one of those very special gentlemen.
It is my privilege to share with you a glimpse into the life of Shimmy D. Biegeleisen. Shimmy was a very handsome young 42 year old Vice President at Fiduciary Trust International at World Trade Center. I have caught a glimpse of a rare soul one who was a wonderful husband, father of five children, son, brother, and FRIEND to many.

I feel so inapt as I try to write a tribute to honor this gentleman the more I read and find out about him. I think the best thing for me to do is just share some of the things I have found out about him with you that have drawn me to him.
One was quoted as saying “Shimmy was loved by all who knew him.”
Although it is almost 5 years since the great tragedy, I still can not believe it. Shimmy was my first Junior Counselor in Kol Ree Nah over 30 years ago. I will always remember that summer with great memories.
I was a tenant of Shimmy and his family from February, 1987 until I got married in June, 1989.
He was always extremely fair to me and went out of his way to be show me grace, kindness and courtesy.
My deepest condolences from my wife and family to his family.
Shimmy was one of the most easy going people I have ever met. I always felt at ease walking into his cubicle and sitting down to discuss a work problem. He was always there to offer help and was able to remain calm during a system crises. What I will remember most is his easy-going nature and the smile that was always on his face. My heart goes out to his wife and 5 children, whom he adored, and the rest of his family and friends. He will be truly missed by all.
God Bless you Shimmy.
A kind and gentle man, generous and forgiving almost to a fault.
His love for his family and his faith were evident with every personal conversation I had with him.
Our only hope is that his family is able cope with this tragedy as best as they can.
You will not be forgotten.
I spent many summers with Shimmy and can honestly say he left an indelible impression on all of us. He will be sorely missed. Shabbos in the ‘country’ will never be the same.
To a great boss of seven years, my heart goes out to you and your family! I will never forget what a great boss you were!
Yes I must agree with the one who said to know Shimmy was to love him this is just a small sample of the many kind comments I found on this wonderful man. Why not take a deeper glance into this gentleman; I want you to see what I have seen
It was not Shimmy D. Biegeleisen’s daughter who was getting married, but that was not the kind of detail that could have stopped him from playing an essential role in the festivities.
Mr. Biegeleisen, 42, helped his niece Estee Berger prepare for the event last June by helping figure out the seating arrangements and making sure everything else was taken care of. And at the wedding he was a backup host, chatting with guests and dancing with children, recalled Shelley Berger, Mr. Biegeleisen’s sister.
“We remember how extraordinary he was, in a very ordinary way,” she said. Mr. Biegeleisen, thoughtful and sensitive, tried to respond to the needs of friends and family ‹ from letting a new mother who worked with him at Fiduciary Trust telecommute, to making sure that Estee’s husband, Zevi Brodt, had the sports section to read in the morning when the newlyweds were living in his Brooklyn building.
Shimmy left his legacy far beyond his short 42 years He is as loved by all as he loved all. However, his crowning glory was the love he had for his family and them for him. I know just before the south tower collapsed on 9-11 on the 97th floor, Shimmy called his home in Brooklyn and spoke with his wife and prayed with a friend reciting
The 24th Psalm in Hebrew.
Shortly after that it is known he would have conversations with 911 and the building would soon collopse. Yes Shimmy took those last few minutes to make certain he talked with those who were most dear to him not yet knowing his fate but those were the first ones on his mind. He was my kind of person and I consider it my honor to have tried to pay tribute to his life today and as we approach 9-11 we should remember his life and the many good things he stood for.
To Shimmy’s family you lost a very good man and I weep with you but I celebrate the one you knew for what a delight he must have been. Never let go of those memories and hold tight to family and friends remember Life Is Simply Good. He was one of those extraordinary people walking around as an ordinary person. He has become one of my heroes. I will strive to be more like Shimmy.

Well done, Ms. Vickie. I think any of us would have been pleased to have known Shimmy. You have given us at least a glimpse into who he was. He is another example of the loss the world suffered at the hands of those criminals on 9-11-2001.

Lovely tribute, Vickie!
A life well-lived. It is very sad that it had to end in such a manner, but from the sounds of it, he left behind a living legacy, one that will be carried on in the people’s lives who he touched.

Ms.Vickie,
I just know Shimmy is looking down on you with a great big smile, probably blushing at all the wonderful things that you had to say about him.:-} What a wonderfully written story about such a great man.Seems like the whole disaster has died down somewhat, but thanks to people like you,we can keep the memory of each and every one that we lost in our hearts and minds.I’m a tad blurry eyed right now,but I just want to say “thank you” for this post and the link to that list.
You have such a great big heart Ms.Vicki.

What a beautiful tribute, Miss Vickie. You brought Shimmy D. Biegeleisen to life for me, and left me just a little sadder on this sad day. I cannot forget his praying the 24th Psalm in Hebrew. My heart goes out to his family, and I hope he’s at peace.

hello miss vickie. i loved reading your tribute. a lot of us do not know some one who died that day although we feel thier loss and pray for their families. that day did affect many people around the world and for once we started to worry about our fellow man more than our every day problems. we were more considerate and more forgiving and acted that day like we would want to act all though the year. very good post miss vickie. thanks for sharing your thoughts with the rest of us.

My deepest condolences to the Biegeleisen family, friends, relatives and colleagues. My family and I were tenants of Mr. & Mrs. Biegeleisen from 1981 through 1995, when Shimmy was a newlywed. I remember his wife letting me wheel their firstborn son in his stroller up and down the driveway, and being blessed to witness their growing family, another son and then a daughter. I only learned about his having a total of five children from the memorials I read. I know the legacy they inherited will make them greater human beings, kinder and gentler than those who went before them. May you only know happiness from now on. G-d Bless You All!

A wonderful tribute Shimmy Biegeleisen. Thank you for taking the time to do this tribute on a Hero.
The 2,996 Tribute projects is such a great idea to remember those who lost their lives, that they won’t be forgotten. That was a horrible day and tragic event. I did a tribute to Chief Battalion William J. McGovern, firefighter.

Another great tribute for me to read today. Thank you for helping us remember what a great man he was.
September 11th, 2006 at 10:37 pm
Lovely, Miss Vickie. Another wonderful, decent man lost to us. I become so angry when I think that there are those who celebrate this day as some sort of victory. And then I think of what my children will have to deal with in the future. What a wonderful world this could be, with people like Shimmy.
September 11th, 2006 at 11:12 pm
Your tribute lets us see how people really remember the little kindnesses shown to them . . . some of the things people recalled were likely things that Shimmy thought were no big deal. This is a lovely memoriam.
