Mojo Monday about life | Filed under General

What is this no one bothered to sweep the Porch while I was away, I see what friends I have. Just wait till you ask me for a favor, yes you know who you are if I cann’t depend on you just who can I depend on. Oh well, this year, June 15 th will be a landmark of a birthday for me but age means nothing to me and I thought I would share with you my thoughts on it.

Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we’re kids? If you’re less than 10 years old, you’re so excited about aging that you think in fractions.

“How old are you?” “I’m four and a half!” You’re never thirty-six and a half. You’re four and a half, going on five!
That’s the key.

You get into your teens, now they can’t hold you back. You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead.
“How old are you?” “I’m gonna be 16!” You could be 13, but hey, you’re gonna be 16! And then the greatest day of your life . . . you become 21. Even the words sound like a ceremony . . YOU BECOME 21. YESSSS!!!

But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you sound like bad milk! He TURNED; we had to throw him out. There’s no fun now, you’re just a sour-dumpling. What’s wrong? What’s changed?

You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you’re PUSHING 40.
Whoa! Put on the brakes, it’s all slipping away. Before you know it, you REACH 50 and your dreams are gone.

But wait!!! You MAKE it to 60. You didn’t think you would!

So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and MAKE it to 60.

You’ve built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it’s a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday!

You get into your 80s and every day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30; you REACH bedtime.

And it doesn’t end there. Into the 90s, you start going backwards; “I Was JUST 92.”

Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again. “I’m 100 and a half!”

May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!

GREAT TRUTHS ABOUT GROWING OLD:

1) Growing up is mandatory; growing old is optional.
2) Forget the health food. I need all the preservatives I can get.
3) When you fall down, you wonder what else you can do while you’re down there.
4) You’re getting old when you get the same sensation from a rocking chair that you once got from a roller coaster.
5) It’s frustrating when you know all the answers but nobody bothers to ask you the questions.
6) Time may be a great healer, but it’s a lousy beautician.

HOW TO STAY YOUNG:

1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height.
Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay ” them ”
2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.
3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle. “An idle mind is the devil’s workshop.” And the devil’s name is Alzheimer’s.
4. Enjoy the simple things.
5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.
6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.
7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it’s family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.
8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.
9 Don’t take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county; to a foreign country but NOT to where the guilt is.
10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.
AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
AND REMEMBER TOO: DANCE LIKE NO ONE IS LOOKING, SING LIKE NO ONE IS LISTENING, AND LOVE LIKE IT’S YOUR FIRST

    I LOVED the “Great Truths About Growing Old”….OMG those are not only hilarious, they’re true! :lol:
    And darling Vickie, I was there to sweep your porch, but you must have hidden the broom! ;)
    Hope you have a good day Vickie! :)
    ~~~~
    Jude, my friend sorry for the confusion no no today is not the day still a few months off and CC has me on his list.
    I knew you would enjoy the list and would see the truth in them if no one else did.
    I guess the dog ran off with the broom because I left it out, next time just come on in you know where the key is ans get another one. :lol:
    Hope you are enjoying your snow.
    If it’s your birthday, Happy Birthday! YAY.
    I haven’t been anywhere in blogland hardly…it’s hard without a computer at home right now. :)
    ~~~~

    Thanks for the call and the song but you most of all should know or do I dare tell Brian you have no idea when his Birthday is :lol:
    I know it is my faut for confusing you all. Boy I got a call in a hurry though. :)
    I love you Girlfriend

  3. MyAvatars 0.2 Walker Says:

    Ok I can dance and if I sing I know no one will hearf me because they would have ran for the door long before I hit the second note.
    I remember I couldn’t wait to grow up and no I wish I hadn’t.
    I’m closing fast on my 47 birthday and I am sore now. The thought of being 70 scares me more than hand to hand combate with a pack of lions.
    There should be a tirn back switch attached to our bodies so I could go back 17 years. :) ~~~~

    Walker, You can sing to me and I won’t run now I might want to :lol:
    I can relate to feeling sore and the thought of turning 70…sometimes I think noway will I see it but at other times I think oh yeah I’ll be around. If you find the switch can I count on you to share with me?
    Hope all is well with you.:)

  4. MyAvatars 0.2 Cecilia Says:

    June 15th is still quite some time, sweetheart. But this post is such a great reminder on how we absolutely have to embrace each moment in the NOW.

    And that last part of your reminder about how one should dance like no one is looking? lol, I have done that lots of times…especially during bowling games…and that gets roaring laughter from everyone, everytime. And nothing’s better than being able to laugh at yourself and to be able to share this with others.

    Yes, we should be alive when we are alive.

    Thanks for this, love. Big hugs to you.

    ~~~~
    It will be here before we know it Cecilia and I was using it because so many think 50 is old but to me it is young.I never think in terms of age. When I saw this I knew I had to use it…it is just so me. I’m glad you enjoyed it as well. I’m not surprised to find out you are one who dances as if no one can see. You my friend are so special. I wish we were neighbors, what fun we would have.
    Love and hugs to you. :)
  5. MyAvatars 0.2 Emmanuel Says:
    haha, I am 29 and a half and look forward to BECOME 30! Maybe we can change the way we look at age by changing our language about becoming older.
    ~~~~

    I’m with you in changing our language about becing older Emmanuel. I once worked with an older physician that I loved dearly, he was like a second father to me and I always told him he was not getting older he was getting mature and better. :lol:
    How are things with you these days my friend, I do not get over as often as I would likebut I do think of you.

  6. MyAvatars 0.2 bubba Says:

    Happy Birthday to us. Feb 20 1950 here. I love your post. Presidents day has no effect this year. Enjoy my friend.

    ~~~~
    Bubba, I knew you would get it and agree with me.
    BTW, Thank you so much for the call last week, you have no idea how much it meant to me. You are a very special friend. Thank you for being in my life. Please tell Ms. Wendy hello. :)
  7. MyAvatars 0.2 Karen Says:
    I loved this post, Vickie. You had me laughing at the turned, pushing, reaching, and hitting. You’re right though, and too many of us are caught up in the age thing when we need to concentrate on living and how we feel in our hearts (bodies don’t count!).
    On June 15, you’ll become 21. That is a big birthday, indeed.
    Love & hugs!
    ~~~~

    Yes soon I’ll be younger than you are, now that is something.:lol:

    Age is just a number we need to be true to our heart and live our life as we are lead—not allowing age to be a factor

    Sending you special hugs and love.

  8. MyAvatars 0.2 Joe Cowboy Poet Says:

    What is this? WAS NO ONE LISTENING? She said, June 15th will be a landmark birthday. Right up there at the top…. June 15th…..okay, sorry, got that out of the way.

    You are so right. Age is all relative. And I’ve been dancing and singing and now I’m loving like it’s the first because it is the first time I’ve really known true love. All the others, it’s now so obvious were just trial runs getting me ready for this time.

    Hugs, love and prayers.

    BTW: I asked Karen if I needed to sweep, but she said it was already done, then FTS said he was going to take care of it. Sigh, nothing gets done unless we do it ourselves. ROFLMAO (((hugs))) (just kidding you two ! )

    ~~~~
    Joe, I knew I could count on you to take care of things but next time just sweep the porch damn it :lol:
    Thank you for always being you, a very special friend. Glad things are going so well in your life and dance and sing my friend. Be Happy for it is your time.
    Sending you love.
  9. MyAvatars 0.2 Sally Says:
    I’m so glad to see you back. I kept looking for you! Yes, Karen said the porch was being taken care of, or at least Joe told me that Karen told him.
    I love your lists. I dance all the time and I don’t give a fig who sees me. Of course, no one does but Katie - she howls….
    Welcome back, I missed YOU!! :)
    ~~~~

    Ms. Sally It is so good to be back with my friends. You know how it is you just can not depend on people I had a ew words with Joe and next time, he will take care of it for me. :lol:
    I can just picture you dancing Ms. Sally and that brings a smile to my face. Now about Katie howling, I think she does not know her manners yet, oh I know she is spoiled. Do we have a new addition yet?

    Thank you for being such a special friend

  10. MyAvatars 0.2 deni Says:

    Oh, I am so glad your back!!!

    I will be turning 42 soon, wow, when did that happen?

    I don’t worry too much about my age though, I feel good.

    ~~~~
    Deni, Thank you it is nice to be back always remeber age is just a number but never take feeling good for granted. Enjoy each day as if it might just be your last day for we never know. I never thought I would be medically retired at the age of 45. We just never know so my friend dance like no one can see you.:lol:
  11. MyAvatars 0.2 Dick Says:
    Ms. Vickie,
    Thank you for your visit to my blog today. I hope you soon are able to join us on the road and travel. I took an early retirement at the end of 2003 so my Annie & I could travel while her rheumatoid arthritis still allowed her to. We thought she would eventually find it too difficult but had no idea that she would die just a year and a half later. I am so glad that I retired early! We not only were able to do some traveling together, but were able to spend the last year and a half of her life almost totally together. Sometimes “till death do we part” really means it. We had 38 wonderful years together.
    I have a pretty good idea of what you mean about living with MS. Annie was diagnosed with RA just 6 months after we were married. We asked her doc if she would become a little old lady in a wheel chair by the time she was 30. He said only if she wanted to be. Annie NEVER gave up and was in the hospital fighting skin breakdown problems when she got pneumonia. That is what killed her, not her RA.
    I’ll be back to read your blog & hope to see you on mine. I also hope to meet you on the road, with your own RV, in the not too distant future.
    Dick, currently in Yuma, AZ
    ~~~~

    Dick, Thank you for your visit and your kind comments. You would understand what I mean as in many ways Annie with her RA most likely lived as I do with my MS. My husband and I have often talked of getting an RV and traveling and still hope to one day for now it is my mother that is the reason our plan is on hold.

    Pleas feel free to come back, make yourself at home here, talk to anyone, leave a question , a comment for others, this is not just my blog it is “Our Porch> Enjoy yourself. I will be visiting your place again. I do hope to see you out on the roan in my own RV one day.

  12. MyAvatars 0.2 susan Says:

    Wonderful list to stay young Vicki. Ive seen it before, but it is always a good reminder.

    ~~~~
    Susan, It is a great list to use as a reminder. :)
  13. MyAvatars 0.2 The Queen Says:
    Great ;lists! I love the pic! Do you know how many times I have actually seen an elderly wife say that to her elderly husband. One time of the husbands grabbed his wife knee, and she being a smart ass said,” yeah you got it right there baby.” It was hilarous!
    Love ya lady!
    I am about to be 35. I don’t wanna, Is it okay if I go back and turn 21 again?
    ~~~~

    Glad you enjoyed the picture and the list, now turn that clock back cause we are always going to be YOUNG :lol:
    Love you, my friend :)

  14. MyAvatars 0.2 ellen Says:

    It irritates me when people complain about getting old, especially to me. They forget that some of us will never enjoy that lovely luxury….

    ~~~~
    Yes Ellen you are right some will never have that pleasure and then there are some who grow old before thir time for they have no quality of life just quaity as time drags on….at times there is no understanding but there is not to be…we are to live each day for what it is…I am certain you do as I do enjoy each day as if we might not have many more.
    You are one of the most special ladies and I am blessed to have you in my life as a friend for you inspire me each day. :)
  15. MyAvatars 0.2 Jude Says:
    Okay well then this year you get two birthday wishes from me I guess ~~ that’s not because you confused me (that’s very easy to do all by myself these days) but because you are so special. :)
    And next time I’ll just bring my own damn broom (I’ll even ride it over!!) and keep that porch clean. Just hope nobody pees on it again.
    Ms.Vickie, if I don’t steal that picture of the old couple (with credit to you of course) to show off on my blog I’ll just die. It’s too hilarious and has personal meaning to me! :lol: :lol: Permission granted?
    ~~~~

    Jude My friend you will never be riding over on a broom you might be riding over with wings and a halo bit never on a broom. :) I’ll always leave a broom around in the future.

    Please of course use the picture, I can not wait to see how you use it because I knwo it will be good. You always have the best on your page.:lol:

  16. MyAvatars 0.2 Margaret Says:

    I know too many people who let age determine what they do-I’m too old, I’m too this, or too that. I say–GO FOR WHAT YOU WANT! Life is too short to worry about our limitations–why not test our limits? I think you are a great example of that, Vickie.

    ~~~~
    Margaret, I agree with you so much too many do let things determine what they can do instead of pushing and testing limits. Thank you, I respect you very much and what you think is important to me and knowing you think I am a great examole of that teels me I am doing things right, :)
  17. MyAvatars 0.2 g-man Says:
    Hello ms V. Great minds think alike! I did a post about age as well! LOL…and I called you out! :)
    Have a great week! :)
    ~~~~

    Gary, Thanks, for the visit and comment. I do believe great minds think alike. :lol:
    You can call me out anytime. :)
    Enjoy your week, stay safe and warm :)

  18. MyAvatars 0.2 Deb Says:

    Loved your post! Heh heh, me, I’ll never grow up. I agree with you; live every day of your life as if it were your last, and don’t dwell on the what ifs. Glad to see ya back!

    ~~~~
    Thanks Deb, Glad you enjoyed but more than that glad to know I’ll have one more joining me in refusing to grow up so if they try to cart me away I want be alone. :lol:
    It is great to be back, I missed my friends :)
  19. MyAvatars 0.2 cheryl Says:
    What fun! And whereever do you find the great cartoons?
    ~~~~

    Good morning Cheryl, I just am lucky in googling and also have some good friends that often send me great cartoons. Glad you enjoyed it.

  20. MyAvatars 0.2 Grey Biker Says:

    Great cartoon. Way too early to be thinking of your birthday. Am I having one this year? I forgot.

    ~~~~
    GB Not sure if you have a birthday or not, one thing I do know is you don’t get older, you just better. :)
    Sometimes it pays to kiss and tell. :lol:
  21. MyAvatars 0.2 txoceanlover Says:
    Definitely good to see you back - so was it your birthday? How come you did not tell anyone?
    Appropriate that I read this on Tuesday morning as my grandson turns 2 today.
    ~~~~~

    It is great to be back David, I now have to work back to full time, no it was not my birthday this year will be a landmark one is all number 50 coming up.

    What a special age for your little one, oh that is right terrible twos or so I hear, not like I have any experience…I wish. Thank you for stopping by often and leaving me comments it meant more than you will ever know. You are a very special person. :)

  22. MyAvatars 0.2 RD Says:

    Au contraire mon frere, growing up is optional; growing old is mandatory. And don’t worry about us boys, we can find ‘em. Good to hear from you young lady, as my girl likes to say, I hope things are ‘groovy’!

    ~~~~~
    But why Randy, I don’t want to grow old, o’kay then I will not grow up will you play with me if I don’t? :lol:
    How are things in your world?
  23. MyAvatars 0.2 Teresa Says:
    I hope you make it to 100 and a half, too. I fixed my link…thanks!
    ~~~~~

    Thanks Teresa as long as it is quality I’m all for it.:)

  24. MyAvatars 0.2 jac Says:

    Of all the tips you have given to be young, I like the last one

    “Tell the people you love, that you love them…at every opportunity you get”

    it makes a lot of difference.

    A super post!!

    ~~~~
    Thank you for visiting and commenting Jac, it is very important to make certain you say what you mean to those important to you. When my husband and I got married my MIL gave my husband and I some very good advice she told us no matter what happened at the end of every day we should make certain before we closed our eyes that evening we made certain all was well with each other and we went to sleep with peace in our hearts.
    This year she and her husband will be married for 50years it worked for them. :)
    Welcome to Our Porch
  25. MyAvatars 0.2 carol Says:
    We should celebrate together, as I was born in June too. We are as young as we feel, remember this girl.((HUGS))
    ~~~~~

    Hello Carol, my friend sounds like a great plan what a great time we could have. No wonder I like you so much. We are so much alike, kindred spirits. I’ll remember we are only as old as we feel no I better change that a little to we are as old as we allow ourself to think. :)
    Hope you having a great week. :)
