A gift for a friend | Filed under General

Here we meet so soon once again to share and visit on “Our Porch.” Remember don’t be shy and join in for this is your place as much as my place. I even leave it unlocked for you so come on and visit with us. Open up, talk more, share more and even chew on me if the mood strikes you, I have plenty and could do with a little chewing every now and then. Just know I can bite!
Today why don’t we share about something near and dear to each of us, friendship. By now you know most of on Sunday’s you see poems here and today is no different so here you go.

Your Gift

I have sat here and pondered the many horizons
of the emotions that drift through my heart
and I recollect the tears, the laughter,
the heartache and the glory.
And I wonder how it was,
that I made the journey into today.
Then you stray into my thoughts,
and I recall how many times you have helped me
and guided me through the darkness
and showed me the light.
Then I think of the laughter you gave to me,
the smiles you brought to my eyes,
and the warmth you poured into my heart.
For those many gifts you have offered me,
I feel compelled to give something in return.
But what gift is worthy of such a friend as you?
Only the finest delights are suitable
for such a friend as you.
But I am not wealthy in a monetary fashion,
and haven’t the means to give such a wondrous gift.
So I sit asking myself what I have to offer,
and just what gift is worthy.
So I give to you something special to me.
Not a material object to be looked at or used,
but rather a place where one can rest easy
and drift into serenity.
Close your eyes if you will and take your thoughts to a place
where light dances across clear blue lakes
and enchanting evergreens offer shelter
and blue skies bring the warmth of the sun.
Where a song is whispered to you from the doves high above,
and the scents of the flowers ease your mind.
Here in this special place
you have wings to fly
and float on warm gentle breezes.
And you can see a vast array of colors burning
into the distance.
Here you are at one with the angels,
and you can be at peace in your heart.
For if you can see my special place,
it is yours to call home and you can always close your eyes
and return again.
So please take my humble offering,
and go there often, knowing that in my heart
I am with you in a place in my mind.
This is my gift for you,
as you are
my special friend.

and now for my special friend I have another gift for you.

My Candle

If I could be only one thing, I’d be a candle,
Just so I could light the way for you to handle.
Making your life happy and so free of woes
No there would never be any fighting of foes.
Never stumbling as I do over and over
No you would have a clear path to the door.
Let me light your path, maybe make your life easier
Neither strong winds, nor rain would ever deter my light.
Yes you know, no matter what I am here for you
I’ll cheer you if you have the moody blues.
Please never fret if times should get tough
You know if things look down or that kind of rough.
You need to remember, I’m always here
I hope in your heart, very close and near
You know I will always help in every way
May happiness, friendship and love in the heart stay
Please don’t blow my candle out, that’s my one request
But if it is me you so detest.
Remember I would never try to hurt you or anyone
Yes that would just be good for no one or no fun.
If that day should come and you leave me behind
That big light of mine will no longer shine.
If that day has come, and you have gone your way
I hope that another time I will see you again one day.
If there comes one day, I don’t appear,
Please do not worry, and of course do not fear.
I may be gone for a day or forever, but in your heart
The light I gave to you did dim but not depart.
It will be there with you forever and a day
I try and always bring happiness and light your way.
Farewell for now, my friend I’m needed elsewhere
If your path grows dark, in your heart, I’m there.
So always remember I’m really not gone, just not seen,
I would not leave a friend ever, I’m not that mean.
Only one simple request that I must say,
Please, never forget those who lit your way.

Tonight as I was thinking about this post on friendship, I found a quote I have never seen before and would like to share it. So appropriate it is for many and I hope it will be enjoyed.

“Friends are like television. Some are like PBS and always asking for money. Others are like the news, with sad tales to tell everyday, some are like that one station with the foreign language; you don’t understand a word of it but you listen and watch anyway. And then there are the ones like the commercials, always changes, ever-so-annoying and only seem to be there when you are bored. But every once and a while you meet someone who’s like a really good movie of the week or that one tv show you hardly ever get to see anymore because you’re so busy. My point is hold on to the friends you care about and since we don’t have a remote control to mute someone or just change the channel, pick your friends carefully.” Author unknown

This post is dedicated to a special friend, who will know it if they read it. We all have some friends more special than others and when something goes wrong then the world is turned upside down. Why do friends hurt friends?

Given the true foundation of friendship, any hurt is bound to cut deep. Real friendship cannot be permanently hurt by complete honesty. My true friends know that if I hurt them it is stupidly unintended; and knowing I have caused pain hurts me also. It is that sincere honesty that soothes the wound. You stated early in your post that your porch would remain unlocked. We know your porch is your heart. To keep it unlocked is very brave and the trait of a real friend. Battle on Miss Vickie.

RD, Thanks my friend you get people and understand them, how did you become so smart? :)
I appreciate the time you take from what must be a very busy life to stop and visit. Enjoy your day and if possible and all permits it take a ride today. I know that is one of your ways to just relax and have some time for you so do it if you can. A special hug for Kerry, who has helped you become the sensative, caring friend you are.

Joe, Another one of Grandpa’s wise sayings. Thanks for sharing it and hope things are o’kay with you. Any plans for golf today or early next week?

It’s like hurting the ones we love. We’re so comfortable in the fact they love us unconditionally but we seem to forget that they’re underbelly is exposed as much as ours is. The thing about friendship and love is that there is bound to be some pain because we’re so emotionally tied but the love makes the pain worth it. We all make mistakes, in the heat of anger and frustration say things we shouldn’t - at least I have and I always feel horrible the minute it flies out of my mouth. Forgiveness is a gift, just as friendship is and I pray that those I’ve wronged have truly forgiven me as I’ve asked.

Beautiful poem, especially the Candle. You are a candle, Vickie, in so many ways. You brighten my day, remind me not to take myself so seriously, and you’re here to make me laugh or listen to me cry. You burn brightly with love, patience, and understanding and I treasure you more than you know. I’m blessed to have you in my life.

    Love you!!

Karen, You my friend know and understand me but also know and understand what other things might cause us to do and say when we would not normally do so. You have taken time and made certain to know me and Missy allowing our friendship to grow where maybe others has not but that is because you also understand what a chronic illness does to one.

We seem to never smother the other’s candle but maybe ignite another spark or two so it will always be brighter. Thank you for blessing my life as you say I bless yours. I send you my love.

The best kind of friend is the one you could sit on a porch with, never saying a word, and walk away feeling like that was the best conversation you’ve had. ~Author Unknown

Hope you have a good Sunday my friend.

GB, Thanks for sharing some extra friendship quotes. You do keep many things well hidden about you but given time this inquiring mind has a way of finding them out. :)
Enjoy your Sunday and hope next week will be a good one.

“To err is human; to forgive is divine.” I wish I was better at forgiveness. You seem to have that knack. Bless your heart.

WFW, Coming from you one I admire this means more than you know. I have to say Missy (Multiple Sclerosis) helped me become a better person

BTW, Thanks for that very special link you shared yesterday. now that is one lady who has a beautiful Soul.

  7. MyAvatars 0.2 Sally Says:

    Why do friends hurt friends?

    Why do we hurt anyone?

    We are human.

I’ve hurt people; people have hurt me. These are times we have to face facts about what is true and what isn’t. There are those who stand ready to forgive - they know unconditional love. They understand us, what we’re going through at the time, understand that often we say things before thinking.

Heck, sometimes foot in mouth happens when we’re not going through anything traumatic.

And, then there are those who don’t forgive because they may have been looking for a reason to back out of a friendship. That happens in families also. It hurts us, leaves us with a rawness we feel will never heal.

I can only speak for myself. I don’t want anyone in my life who doesn’t want to be there. That may sound harsh, but once I’ve asked for forgiveness, and it doesn’t come, I feel more sorry for that person than I do for myself. But, I have to move forward; life is a beautiful place, and too far fragile to dwell on ‘what might have been’. It is what it is. People are who they are. What a sad life it must be to be unable to forgive.

Am I still welcome on the porch? :)
Ms. Sally You are not just welcome on the porch but how about by my side? You are a very wise and special lady and I have told you that many times here and at your place. You often share your wisdom with us and for that I will always appreicate.

BTW, No one else better not say anything about what you say either because I’ll take them to task on it. Loyal I am, maybe to much at times but that is who I am.

Hope you have a great day. How many days till the new baby?

Beautiful poems and great descriptions of friends. You always seem to hit the mark with your views on this old world and I enjoy reading them.

David, thank you for visiting and also your kind comments.

  9. MyAvatars 0.2 deni Says:

I count myself blessed to have one good friend in this life. A true friendship grows beyond what it started as. If I hurt her, or she hurts me, we easily forgive, we know each other very well, we are sister spirits, and know that any hurt is unintentional.

She was the only friend I had for years, she stood by me always, even if she didn’t agree. But she always told me straight out if she thought I was wrong.

Now I count myself doubly blessed for the friendships I have made here. I have found other ’sisters’ and even ‘brothers’ here.

I am happy to come and sit on your porch and listen to the quiet along with you.

Thank you for sharing so much of yourself with us.

Deni, You are so rich in that special friendship and for that one the wisdom you have gained has allowed you to nurture and grow more. It is great to know we have special ‘Sisters and Brotehrs”.

Please come sit with me anytime, you are a special lady and one I am enjoying getting to know more each day.

  10. MyAvatars 0.2 Karen Says:

ROFL No, if you heard the G-Whiz going, I wouldn’t have been able to talk to you. *snortle*

That I’m sure because there would have been to much else going on, yes it is experience talking.

  11. MyAvatars 0.2 FTS Says:

Friends are able to hurt us because the bond runs deeper. If it were someone else, we’d dismiss the same comment and forget about it. It’s because a friend is allowed closer access to our heart that they’re able to inflict a little pain with the slightest remark or act.

Seventy times seven. That is such a high bar He set for us.

FTS, That is so correct and if you find the cure for my FITM disease would you make certain I am on the top of the list to get it? Many times I say things that hurts and then it can be too late. I have too learn and bite hard, time has a way of taking care of things.

  12. MyAvatars 0.2 wanda Says:

A friend is someone you call in the middle of the night when you’ve been arrested for being an idiot.
A BEST friend is the one sitting there beside you, laughing saying “Man was that cool or what?”

I think I might be one of those people who are like a news channel. I don’t mean to harp on the negative, it just seems like there so much that needs to be fixed.

Wanda, I think you stand true to yourself where others stand true to what is popular. I would prefer to have your friendship over others. Today as we look around most is negative so it is very difficult not to harp on it.

Too bad we do not live closer, I have a feeling we would be a double trouble for many. Keep that voice out there. :)

  13. MyAvatars 0.2 Margaret Says:

When we allow ourselves to care, it gives people the power to hurt us. However, it is our choice how we choose to deal with it. I have been bitter, cynical, taken a long time to move on, a short time, cried, raged and generally made a huge nuisance of myself. In the final analysis, I always choose happiness—but it can take me a while to get there. I adore your poetry; you are very gifted!

Margaret, I appreciate you ar sharing your thoughts with us. You are one I respect and consider very wise. and it is all about choices we make. Happiness is important and we must make the choice that allows us to move toward that no matter how long it takes.

Thank you for the compliment, I enjoy writing and many times my best writing comes when I am emotional.

  14. MyAvatars 0.2 bubba Says:

At first I thought you were talking about Angels. Then I thought it was about freindships. Then you asked the question (Why?). Are you truly searching for an answer?

I do love the poem. My freind you have a beautiful heart.

Bubba, To me my friends are angels because I know the difference between friends and acquaintances which is a mistake so many make. As for am I searching, I always search in many cases for myself and in some cases for others. You Bubba understand and get people.

    Thank you Bubba.

  15. MyAvatars 0.2 Tracey Says:

I think we hurt those who we’re closest to simply because they are that close. They’re usually first in the line of backfire.

But when we love someone and they love us back then all can be forgiven. Sometimes it takes longer and we might get impatient (who me?? ) but it will happen eventually and we learn and grow closer.

Love the poetry. It’s beautiful, eloquent and full of feeling. Kinda like you, don’t you think?

    ((hugs))

Trace-You said it so well and time does have a way of taking care of things. I just am not patient at times and then other times I am very patient..it all has to do with just how important something is to me and nothing is more important than friendship and love.

Thanks for the compliment Trace and I know it came from your heart…a big one. You are a special lady, thanks for being you.
