Changing the Furniture at Ms. Vickie’s | Filed under General

It is a New Year and I hope you will pull up a seat and set a spell with Ms. Vickie and make yourself at home. I am making a few changes around Ms. Vickie the Southern Belle but I hope you will find you enjoy the changes and will be here often. The first change, I made was I took the time to rearrange the nice furniture on the porch. Well there really was no furniture involved but if you check the comments on yesterday’s post you will see what I mean. I know I will have some who never pay attention, so let me just take you by the hand and walk you up the steps or back to the post as this case is. I went into each comment and made a short and in some cases a long comment to each person’s comment on the post. You will also find my response to each person is in bold. I can not take credit for this as I have seen it done over at many sites. This allows for more of a community feeling here so I will not feel as if I am always setting on that big porch all alone.
The next change I would like to make will take your involvement but as I said from the time I had Always Victoria this is not my site it is our site. I just have the keys to the front door but in the South if you come in the back door then you are friends. The only people who come to the front door is those who are guest and they are not yet comfortable. In the land of blogging those just might be the lurkers or those who just don’t comment for one reason or another. A friend takes the time to comment as this is their hello, thank you, I enjoyed my visit but I did not like the food so the next time we will go out to eat….as in I did not agree with you but I do respect you and I’ll be back again to see what else you have to offer. For those that come in the back door, I hope you understand and realize I am looking to you to help me out here. Talk among yourself in comments, address each other and ask questions, share your experiences with us, just have a good time. The only thing I will ask is that it not become something each of us can not be proud of.

Friendship is a strange thing

It is by chance we met, by choice we became friends.
Friendship is a strange thing—
We find ourselves telling each other the deepest details of our lives,
Things we don’t even share with our families who raised us.
But what is a friend? A confidant? A lover?
A fellow email junkie? A shoulder to cry on?
An ear to listen? A heart to feel?…
A friend is all these things…and more.
No matter where we met, I call you friend.
A word so small yet so large in feeling,
A word filled with emotion.

Here we set on the porch in swings and rockers
Sharing almost like a book being written
We are always waiting to talk or see what was left
Yes we might even argue, disagree, cry or laugh
It is true great things come in small packages.
You can bet we will have concern one for another,
Friendship is a strange thing—
Parts of me and you go into each other,
Some it is my humor, some it is my listening ear,
some it is real life experiences, Some it is my romanticism
Friendship is a strange thing—

Victoria Smith 1/2/2006
So come in, get comfortable on this porch with Ms. Vickie and set a spell. While here you just might want to suggest a few games, share a few jokes, or even leave a tip. Just feel free to make yourself comfortable and stay as long as you would like but most of all come back often. Guess what, ” Life Is Simply Good.”

It is so nice seeing you end your post with “Life Is Simply Good” again, your porch is very beautiful!

I think a good tip to leave here is if someone comes into your house from the back door, and you don’t know them, run for your life!

I wish this was really MY PORCH it is the one I have in my dreams, but glad to know you like it and would approve.

Even if you came in the front or the back door I know I would smile for you always have me smiling from your comments or from your post at your place.

  2. MyAvatars 0.2 Rockchild Says:

Here is a good joke I learned a long time ago, but not before I was born.

    Knock, knock!

    You say “who’s there?”

    A Lurker..

You say “I’m calling the police!”

I think I messed up somewhere. I’ll tell you the joke again another time, if that’s ok, is it?

You come back and tell your joke anytime Rockchild. I might even have to come get you if you stay away to long.

  3. MyAvatars 0.2 Rockchild Says:

Here is a good game I seen played on other blogs! I say a word like Pretzel, and you say something that goes with it, like Bush, then the next person continues with a word that goes with Bush, like Nucular.

Here is the first word: Bigfoot

Thanks for the idea of the word association game and guess what I see someone played with you. Don’t tell anyone when I think of Bigfoot now I always think of you.

  4. MyAvatars 0.2 Cecilia Says:

*sigh* I dream of having a porch someday. Rocking myself to sleep in that chair or simply enjoying the breeze, at peace with a good book.

Thank you for sharing this with us. It gives me more of a picture on how you are doing (real life!). Thank you for the nice comment back that we all received from your last post.

The poem is so heartfelt. I take it in my heart and give it back by saying that, indeed, friendship is friendship no matter how you met or no matter how it is maintained…the thought that the other is simply there is…simply more than enough.

I’m going to play with Rockchild now and give my word that I associate with BigFoot —> KingKong.

    Have a great day!

Cecilia, dreams we all have them, that porch is one of mine but it will be and many come true. In real life I am doing much better, these days and I do have a smaller porch that is very similiar to this one that I enjoy.

Poetry or actually just writing is something I enjoy very much and sharing it has allowed me to open more. You are also one who has talents that far exceed most. I enjoy the changes that have been taking place at Apple Ciders, if we could just get you to stay with us. Maybe Bubba can help me out on that one.

Thanks for playing with Rockchild today. I know he will enjoy knowing someone chose to play with him.

Today will be very special and you have added to it. You come back now you hear.

  5. MyAvatars 0.2 trucker bob Says:

Great post Vick. Almost afraid to show up here today after getting slapped side-ways yesterday.

Not going to comment on “back-door bandits”.
    Over to you!

Oh pooh you afraid of showing up after getting a little slap, I know better besides you will always take a slap or two for cookies  Wait a minute though slaps are one thing you better be concerned if you ever show up and the back door is locked.

Come on back ya hear and make it soon.

  6. MyAvatars 0.2 bubba Says:

As I always say. Hey. Don’t mind if I sit a spell? Y’all got a cool drink? Somewheres? I’m a might partched. My name is Bubba and if’n ya need my help? Just ask ya hear. I’ll see what me and the misses can do. Gotta run. Y’all come back. Ya’hear.

So glad to see you Bubba, first I should tell everyone I met you over at Cecilia’s. You were always making some of the best comments and I thought Bubba he must be Southern…..wrong was I.

So, please pull up that chair and what type of drink would you like? I’ll make certain to have it on hand for those long chats you might want to have here. By now you know I’ll ask if I need anything or want to know anything from you Bubba so please make yourself right at home. Just make this your home away from home.

You better come on back and soon

  7. MyAvatars 0.2 Peter Says:

Hi Vickie, well it seems everyone is very comfortable when they come to visit here, (well Trucker Bob seemed a little uncomfortable, but he’ll be back to his cheeky best soon,) and Bubba I haven’t heard that much from you before, is it a new years resolution?

I hope everyone will be comfortable here Peter, you noticed Bob was just a little uncomfortable as well, oh a few cookies will fix that or I hope….(hmmm better get a few of Bob’s favorite Cookies for next visit)

Bubba did seem right at home, wonder did it have anything to do with that “New tradition” he and his wife had this year?

BTW Peter is everything to your liking here?

  8. MyAvatars 0.2 Tracey Says:

I love to sit out on the porch and just listen to the world go by.

I love what you’ve done with the place Vickie and boy am I glad to be back in the ‘neighborhood’!

Hope your New Year is filled with bright and beautiful friends!

    (((hugs)))

Trace, A porch is so nice to sit on for many reasons, I’ve spent hours talking to friends, sharing, crying, laughing, playing as a child and now reading, watching nature…..A porch is one of the things that often will bring me back to “Life Is Simply Good.”

Thanks for the kind words about the changes here and glad you are back in the neighborhood. May this year be the best for both of us in many ways and especially good health and beautiful friends.

  9. MyAvatars 0.2 Karen Says:

Can I get you some lemonade before I sit down and kick my shoes off? I like the sounds of the changes.

Friends are special and to me, they’re extended family. I treasure you and our friendship. You’ve taken me by the hand and helped me through some tough times and you know I’m here for you, day or night. The laughs we’ve shared are just as special and I smile every time I think of them. You are a kindred spirit and a sister of my heart.

    Love & hugs!

Lemonade is that sweet or unsweet? Wait, did I smell something :LOL

You would understand friends and friendship better than many. A true friend would be around and help throught those good and bad times. I think a friend knows not what time it is day or night for that matters not….Laughter is a must in life as I am learning and that is something you seem to have mastered but then there are times you hide behind it but I sneak in and find out what is going on. As they say smiling takes less muscles than frowing

  10. MyAvatars 0.2 Jude Says:

Ahhh yes Vickie, first we’ll take a glass each of iced tea and go sit awhile in the cool breezes…..let’s you and I take the porch swing and I’ll gently rock us both as we have a nice visit and chat about life. I do indeed like the Visiting Porch you have extended to all of us. And of course, all the love that resides there. :) Oh, and may I bring some butterscotch squares for us to nibble on as we laugh and chat?

Oh thank you Jude, sharing a glass of iced tea, chatting about life as the porch swing rocks back and forth is so nice and the images it brings forth. I do believe one day we will be doing just this, surrounded by many others and trying to figure just how we can sneak off for some of OUR chats.

You were one of the main ones to help me realize the importance of making this move to the front porch and chagning the furniture with the New Year. Over time, I have seen how nice it is at other places and felt you were right and if I could just maybe take it a step or two further we would have a good time here and I could give what I was wanting to.

BTW, the butterscotch squares sound great but we better hide them before Bob knows we have them :)

  11. MyAvatars 0.2 Jude Says:

Well darling, we just won’t tell him that there are other sweet things besides ourselves and cookies!! ;)
He has a way of finding all good things….sweet or otherwise……he just has that way He thinks he found us, we’ll just let him keep thinking that until we really get ready to spring it on him. Not sure what IT is but we’ll figure something out.

  12. MyAvatars 0.2 Dawn Says:

Beautiful post, Vickie !! :) Loved the poem. Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year !! :)
    *HUGS*

Thanks Dawn, hope this New Year will be much better for you—sorry to hear you were having such a difficult time medically at the end of the year.

  13. MyAvatars 0.2 Joe Cool Cowboy Poet Says:

Well my dear, it worked finally. I really like the changes you’ve made. Front porch or back door, friends are always welcome. Me, I prefer a campfire, with a guitar and a cowboy poet reading aloud, starlit nights and a strong cup of coffee. Sigh, ah for the old days. But now we have this wonderful way of sharing our poems don’t we? Which I have to say, is at least warmer than sleeping out under the stars. Big hugs my BFFIWWW. You are always welcome at my place too. Keep smilin’

Joe, Thanks for trying back when you were not able to get in earlier…..you must have come by during the “Blue Light Special” I said Blue we don’t have ” a red light here —that is at Karen’s place with the bananas, did I say that? G-whiz
No here we will have a little fun and and poems and you can bring your guitar and we will all have fun.

Thanks I like being your Best Friend Forever In Whole Wide World (BFFFIWWW) we all need them and I’m always smiling especially when I get hugs…..Now come back anytime and you know I will be over at your place.

  14. MyAvatars 0.2 ellen Says:

I call dibs on the porch swing! I’ll bribe you with a handpainted pitcher full of homemade lemonade. Deal?

Oh Ellen so glad you came by and no bribe needed….You get the swing everytime you stop by. You are my extra kick on the day I need it.

  15. MyAvatars 0.2 FTS Says:

Always good to sit and visit on the porch — as long as it’s not too hot. Heat is the main reason I’m leaving Texas. ;)
I refuse to get in a rocking chair yet, though…

Gee Whiz FTS Right now you better worry about the rain, the hail and the tornado watch we are under. We’ve moved inside so come one in pull up a seat oh sorry I see we only have a rocking chair for you. FTS, I’ve already given up my chair to be a good hostess so don’t hold it against and come on back again soon.

BTW, when you get to Colorado we will all come set a spell with you.

  16. MyAvatars 0.2 Vicki Says:

Great post! You have a wonderful way with words that makes a person comfortable on your virtual “front porch.”

So from one southern girl to another, pass the iced tea!!

    Vicki :-)
Thank you and so glad you are coming back to visit again. Check back soon and you will be finding your special link on the side. Changes are going to be taking place there as well. I mean after all we are both Southern and share the same name. You must be one Mighty Fine Lady. Before I run off let me pass you the iced tea

  17. MyAvatars 0.2 Terry aka Funky Says:

    Happy 2006 Ms Vickie !

Thanks Terry, it is going to be one here so make certain you do you part. Ys I mean here bu more important do your part in your real life.

  18. MyAvatars 0.2 poopie Says:

Well, by golly you did change the furniture!*she says while comin’ in the back door *

My front porch swing is my favorite place to watch the world go by. Wouldn’t take a bazillion bucks for it…and for the view!

Oh Poopie a true Southern one you are….yes the give away was comin in the back door. You knew just how to mke yourself right at home.

I always love the pictures you share with us of your place and oh me the space you have, all the pecan trees. I can understand what you mean about your place and one day I’ll have mine as well.

  19. MyAvatars 0.2 Teresa Says:

I love those rocking chairs–like the ones from Cracker Barrel. I enjoy visiting your blog–gives me a lift when I need it. You have become a wonderful friend–someone I respect and admire.

You have the eye for rockers Teresa, Cracker Barrel rocker’sis where we bought my in-law rockers from last year Mothe and Father’s Day.

Thank you for the kind words, knowing you is a pleasure and I happen to think you are the one to be admired and respected it is you.

  20. MyAvatars 0.2 Mike (exscientia) Says:

Nothing beats the front porch , your good taste and great friends - super idea and Happy 2006! Hey, Karen drank my lemonade. Again.

Mike, thank you for your kind words—Great taste , of course and great friends look what I have—YOU.

BTW, I spoke with Karen and her manners, but you know how she can be at times.
    Karen remember share…share…:)

  21. MyAvatars 0.2 Sue Says:

Happy 2006 to you, Miss Vickie! I hope it is the beginning of only happiness and sunshine.

You’ve got such a friendly place here. I think I may just hang out here too a spell and enjoy all this positive energy.

Thanks, also, for your insightful comments on my site the other day. I appreciated them greatly.

Welcome Sue, Glad to see you visit again and may this year be a great one for all of us.

Thank you for the kind words about the place and please pull up a seat and get comfortable. You will find I enjoy communicating here as well as at other’s homes . Glad to know some small thing I said might have helped in some way.

  22. MyAvatars 0.2 g-man Says:

    “life is simply good….” that’s nice! :)
Thank you, it is something I very much believe.

  23. MyAvatars 0.2 Tanda Says:

You’re a very gracious host, Vickie. I love that you respond to every comment in bold. It does frustrate me when I comment on a blog and they do not respond at all. It’s like saying “hello” to someone and having them NOT say hello back.

    It’s a great idea.

Thank you Tanda, It is so easy to be gracious when one is as kind as you are. I do agree with the analogy you shared.

This is a great idea but some of my good friends used it forst and nudged me in this direction. Thank goodness I have smart and kind friends :)

  24. MyAvatars 0.2 Wanda Says:

Well, well, looks like I’m not the only one making changes. Must be a ’southern woman’ thing!
I like this idea of responding to each comment. I just may use it myself sometime. That is if you don’t mind my ‘borrowing’ your idea.

Hello Ms. Wanda changes are nice and you know how women are Southern or not,we always change thing and especially furniture :)

By all means please feel free to use this idea but it was not mine as I borrowed it from others and they even nudged me to use it.

You and I seem to have some similiar ways and I can very well see it going over BIG time at your place.

  25. MyAvatars 0.2 txoceanlover Says:

sigh - I wish I had such a front porch overlooking the Texas hill country. Visitors would be most welcomed.

David that do sound nice. Something tells me you welcome visitors with ot wothout the porch :)

  26. MyAvatars 0.2 trucker bob Says:

Damn! 25 comments and counting. Seems my work here is done, so I guess I’m not needed anymore.

I’m proud of the way you picked up this ball and ran with it!

    Look who is counting—-not me—-YOU :)
BTW Your work is never done where I’m concerned (did I say that)

Speaking off playng with…….watch out remember you have a harem

  27. MyAvatars 0.2 Monica Says:

Happy New Year, friend…I love the porch…I LOVE THE POEM MORE. You’re a true talent, Vickie.

    I love ya.

Monica, That is a Compliment that I will always treasure knowing you as I do I know it comes from your heart and also you are a soon to be published author.

I am so glad our paths crossed last years for I have one of the most special friends today and one who understands me well.

    I love you my friend

  28. MyAvatars 0.2 Karen Says:

Oh my, Vickie… you used Gee Whiz and FTS in the same sentence… *snicker* Now what am I to do about that???

As for Mike, are you sure that was your lemonade?? I could have swore that was mine… LOL

I’ll not even touch that Gee Whiz other than to say poor FTS
Are you trying to say Mike might have been worng….no way my bet is on Mike with this one after all I REALLY know YOU :)

  29. MyAvatars 0.2 Karen Says:

Dang, I can’t fool you, can I?!! LOL

    Not today anyway :)
