Here are two short poems that are favorites of mine. One is by an unknown author the other is by a young poet hero of mine who by the age of six years old and had already written several hundred poems. By the age of 13, he had written thousands of poems. This young hero passed away on the morning of June 22, 2004, at the age of 14. His name is Mattie Stepanek. So here from Mattie is:
A Champion is a winner,
A hero…
Someone who never gives up
Even when the going gets rough.
A champion is a member of
A winning team…
Someone who overcomes challenges
Even when it requires creative solutions.
A champion is an optimist,
A hopeful spirit…
Someone who plays the game,
Even when the game is called life.
There can be a champion in each of us,
If we live as a winner,
If we live as a member of the team,
If we live with a hopeful spirit,
For Life.
It begins long before the first frost -
Somewhere between memory and reality.
It touches us with compassion
and whispers to us of hope.
It tiptoes into our hearts with elation
and opens our souls to faith.
Its name is Christmas and we have yet to learn
How to keep it close for more than
this one brief, shining moment.
Someday, perhaps…with love.

Good morning divine Ms. V. Great poems. Nice thoughts. All the clutter around deserves our scorn. But the responsibility to sort through it is ours.
To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time for every purpose, under heaven
A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep
To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time for every purpose, under heaven
A time to build up,a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together
To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time for every purpose, under heaven
A time of love, a time of hate
A time of war, a time of peace
A time you may embrace, a time to refrain from embracing
To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time for every purpose, under heaven
A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time to love, a time to hate
A time for peace, I swear itÂ’s not too late

“When love frees the soul
images flow drifting from the mind.
They retreat then reappear,
those fleeting shadows of another time.
No lonbger rich that devious past,
apparitions gently fade
while bells toll from within the heart
unlocking the freshness of spring at last
yet, while waiting for love again
my eyes behold the past.”
Fleeting shadows

What lovely poems.
I read your comment over at Houston’s (”I just want to curl up and wake up when the New Year is upon us”), and just had to stop by and tell you, I know exactly how you feel.
I don’t know why this year is so difficult for me. I feel as if my whole world is coming apart at the seams.

Mattie truly was a gifted, special little guy. I appreciate your sharing his poem with us. The other one is special also. I don’t visit as often as I used to Vickie, but I hope you know you’re in my thoughts and prayers. God bless and comfort you, my friend.
