As we have seen many times the blogging community has stepped up to do what we can to help those who were affected by the hurricane. Basically, a flood-aid blogburst has taken place. Bloggers who are participating, selected their charity or charities and put up a post recommending them and other action to help, and linked back to here, forming basically, a Carnival of Hurricane Relief, where a comprehensive list of both bloggers and charities will be kept.
These are my neighbors the people in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama and I ask you to support me in Hurricane Katrina: Blog for Relief Day, in an effort to raise awareness and funds to aid those who were affected by the hurricane. TTLB is the sponsor but it was suggested by Hugh Hewitt and Glenn.
I will be participating to the best of my ability and the charities that I have chosen to support are The Humane Society and The Habitat for Humanity. I chose these two charities because they are near and dear to my heart.
Animals and mammals are not able to speak and someone needs to speak for them. Those that know me understand I do love to talk so hear me roar today for the Lions and all the other animals and many mammals that need to be rescued and that is just the beginning. The human-animal bond is as old as human history. We cherish our animal companions for their unconditional affection and acceptance. We feel a thrill when we glimpse wild creatures in their natural habitat or in our own backyard. Unfortunately, the human-animal bond has at times been weakened or destroyed as is the case now. So please if you can make a donation, do so by going here and doing so now.
In a disaster like Katrina, which was catastrophic for family in low-income housing and mobile home parks, where these people were already hanging on by a thread before the hurricane, they will sadly suffer the most in the aftermath. The situation on the Gulf Coast is grave. Reports of devastation are staggering where thousands of families are left homeless or with homes that are severely damaged.
They have lost so much. We must help them piece their lives back together. There will be a need to help rebuild. In order to do that you can begin by going here and making your donation to The Habitat for Humanity now.
How can you help me, you can link to my page sending people over and I will pay a dollar for each comment. . You can match my donation per comment you get on your blog and donate it to the charity of your choice. You can donate a set amount to a charity. Just please let me know the amount you are donating and when you have completed your donation so I will know if I have reached my goal. However also make certain you go here and complete this form so we will know the entire amount raised in this blogging community effort.
Just remember how much we have to be thankful for and help me as I help others.

We do need to stop and think of our blessings while we remember those in so much need. There are so many relief efforts all over and we all need to pick a couple and help any way we can.

I’ve linked you also.
I support the Humane society. the animals are often considered disposable and cannot speak for themselves. it’s my mission to be their advocate and to help them as best that I can. they are our loyal companions. The least we can do is save their lives.:!:

Great idea!
I just made a call to volunteer for one of the FEMA Blue Tarp crews, so I may be off and running very soon — and for how long no one knows.
We all do what we can to help.

Hi, I will add your link to my latest post and carry forward as I post about this disaster. Among the people shown hurt & stranded in New Orleans, it was also sad to watch those sea lions that swam out of the broken aquarium burning in the sun. At least some of the people poured water over them while waiting for rescue.

I have called the Red Cross here in my area and I am waiting for a recruiter to call me so I can volunteer here to help there. There are a lot of ways I can help. I don’t know who to call to let it be known that my home is open for some one though..any ideas from anyone?
September 1st, 2005 at 9:25 pm
Bless you, Victoria. We, too, have given through our local Red Cross. We must ask ourselves: “What would we hope to receive should we find ourselves walking in their shoes?” That is what we must give.
