Katrina | Filed under General

My heart is very heavy today, I have thought several times should I write something and if I do just what will I write about? My normal thoughts have been replaced with thoughts and prayers for all of the many of you who faced and are facing potential danger and devastation - to your homes, your places of work, your lives for the immediate future. Please know that so many of us around the country stands with you in spirit and when this is over, stands ready to assist in whatever ways we can. Being a Southern and knowing what the South has been through before, I know our sense of amazing spirit of courage and resiliency. My prayer continues that “Katrina not be our ‘Asian tsunami’ ” . . . .and may there continue to be a diminished threat to our beautiful South.

For personal reports on what it has been like and continues to be like to remain in New Orleans you might want to visit my friend John, of John’s Online Journal. He has shared his thoughts, his feelings, and his concerns as he has remained in what was once a beautiful city. Please go visit John and share with him your kindness as I know so many of you have. I also would encourage you to stop and leave my friend, Seven of It’s A Dog’s Life wishes as well. Seven lives in New Orleans but as he said ” Bailing out,,, and hauling ass” for his brothers to stay. He has not checked back in that I am aware of.

I will not end this post as I always do today out of love, concern and care of many who would not understand those special words I often say. Instead I will ask each of you to count your blessings for what you have today for we each should be thankful.

Vicki, I am also heavy hearted and scared and worried. My best friend, his children and grandchildren mother, sister, brother and sister in law, are all in Hattiesburg Ms. I haven’t heard anything since 9:45 am. He was supposed to call me back. I think the cell phone towers are probably down. After seeing pictures of Mobile and New Orleans I am pretty freaked out and having major panic attacks. I love those folks so much. The thought that any one would die, loose a loved one, have their home destroyed is just terrible. And believe me I will be doing everything I can from here to help those devastaded by Katrina. I just keep praying to god to break her up. So far those prayers have been answered in that she is loosing strength..I hope we hear from Se7en soon too…….

Haven’t been able to think about much else today. Lord have mercy; I know it’s not as bad in some parts as they expected but it’s still devastation for so many. I noticed John has not posted since early morning, I hope his was not one of the hospitals that had the windows blown out!! God Bless. Yes, we’ll keep praying our hearts out.

They will need our prayers and thoughts for many months to come. They will need this country to pull together to help them recover.

Do you think any other country will send aide and workers?

  8. MyAvatars 0.2 Jade Says:

It is definitely something that has been in my prayers and will continue to be. It is devistating, absolutely horrific.

How does it go… “I once thought I had it bad because I had no shoes — until I met a man that had no feet.”

Good point to always count our blessings for what we have instead of whining about what we don’t.

My thoughts have been with those people all day. I am so lucky to live in an area that does not have this type of extreme weather. I feel for all of those people and I wish that somehow I could help them.

BTW, neither John or seven have done an update since yesterday morning. Probably no electricity and no phone lines. I’m just really hoping the best for them.

You said your usual words dear, just in a different way.

If only you knew how much inspiration I, and many others, get from your posts.

My prayers, heart, and thoughts go to all who are in the path. I can’t imagine how scary that would be to live through something like that.

It’s hard for many of us to understand what it’s like to loose everything you worked for to a violent mother nature. I think it’s time for family and to get the hell out of town. Homes can be rebuilt but lives are precious.
As a spieces we fight for our survival and we will stand with our brothers and sisters in their time of need. I hope everyone weathers this storm.
    Very touching post Vickie

It’s hard to know what to say. I try and put myself in the shoes of someone who has lost everything and it’s just too painful. I hope that all who are able will rally around those who need us most. There but the grace of God….

    Well said, Victoria.

As long as my friends and family are safe and happy, I am a blessed woman indeed.

The devastation in Louisiana and Mississippi and the other affected areas is unbelievable.

Before we went to St. Jude we’d never been to the south at all and we didn’t know anybody there.

Now we know literally dozens of people there, families who have kids with cancer.

Steven was wearing a shirt that said Covington on it one day when we were at St. Jude. Covington is a brand of kids clothing at Sears.

A black man with a teenage son in a wheelchair approached me as we sat in the waiting room at St. Jude. He asked Steven’s name, what Steven had, asked for my name, and jotted it down. He said he’d pray for us and he wanted our names.

Then he asked if we were from Covington, pointing at Steven’s shirt. I said no, San Diego. He told me he and his son lived in Covington, they had just moved from a bigger house to a smaller one due to financial pressures.

He told me about his son’s illness. He took my hands between his and we prayed for our kids.

Such kindness, from someone whose life has already been touched by tragedy.

    Kind of like you, Vickie.

I pray for all those in those areas, those I know and those I don’t know. Please God, bless them and keep them and remember your children and show them your love.
