Have you ever thought about the fact we are all bound by time? Stop for a
minute and just think of this. There never seems to be enough time to do what
we want to do. Have you ever longed to be free of the tyranny of time? What
would it be like to measure time like our ancient ancestors did, by the passing
of the seasons, or the coming of dawn or sun down, not by second, minutes, or
hours?

I have more free time now than I have ever had, I still find that there is so many things I want to do but the only vehicle I have do them in is time. There are friends to see, so we set a time to get together. There are movies I want to watch and that start at a certain time. The stores open and close at a certain time. Churches usually set a certain time to start on. All of these things and a host of other things that are important to me that I would not want to miss require I know the time.

Did you know the ancient Greek had two words for time? One, chronos, is where we get our word chronology, meaning time measured by the changing of the calendar or the ticking of the clock. The other word, kairos, refers to time as an experience that is full of meaning.

I’m at the point in my life where I want kairos moments, time that is filled with significant and unforgettable experiences. And to have them, I have to guard my chronos time, watch over it lest it slips away. At the same time I have to realize that the kairos moments can catch me completely by surprise, breaking into chronos unexpectedly.

Yes time is our greatest commodity, perhaps our most valuable one. Those who study our human behavior state that in our day most people value their time more than their money. And so we guard it carefully. But we need to learn to use it more wisely.

Do you remember that song written by Jim Croce, “Time In A Bottle,” in which he was going to put time in a bottle, put a cork on it, so he could store up time? Then he would have extra time stored up when he needed it. If he wanted time for family or friends, he could uncork the bottle, and take some time out. Too bad it ford not work that way. And it did not for Jim Croce either. Less than a year after he recorded the song, he died in a plane crash.

It’s sort of like each of us has a bank names TIME. Every morning we are credited with 86,400 seconds. Every night whatever we fail to invest is written off. Each day a new account is opened; each evening no balance is carried over. There is no going back; there is no drawing on tomorrow’s account. We have to live on today’s deposit only. We must invest our time as to make the most out of it.

It’s about time I stopped writing this post. Time is calling me. And I believe something significant is about to happen here at Always Victoria. It is time for me to dream so I hear my bed calling me. What time is it for you? Make certain you take time to make certain Life Is Simple Good.

Oh Vickie I’m so thankful you have reclaimed your place in the universe, vital and whole. I can feel new life surging within and around you. Hold on tight, there’s more to come. You light up my life. ily

I’ve often thought that song was his epitaph…his living in infamy song.
Having so much free time this summer and many adventures going on, I can still sit and say to a friend, “I miss being just a mom.” I want my daughter home, I want my son home and I want to put time in a bottle for those two weeks in August when I’ll have all three angels under the same roof.
I so love your writing, Victoria. Have you written a book? You should…I would buy it.

It always seems that either the older we get, and/or the more profoundly difficult the experiences we go through in life, the more “time” becomes important to us. I feel as though my best spent time is when I am enjoying the Universe’s gifts (wind in the trees, sunsets, birds singing) and when I am feeling fulfilled because someone I’m with, or just left, knows how much I truly love and appreciate them. These are my most important moments now, those and when I feel my connection to God and the Universe.

Time can certainly be our friend or our enemy. When we miss a near death experience by a split second, that always amazes me and the “what if’s” start, what if I had taken longer to do this or that.

Wonderful post, and may your time be filled with much joy, happiness, and amazing things.

We have been extrememly busy. SO, I took time last night to sit on the porch swing for an hour with the children last night. We read 6 stories and sang song. That was an awesome investment of time for me and them. It paid off. I had a sweet one laying in my lap asleep and the other one reading to me. Life is good

Excellent post Vickie. Time is so imporant. I need to slow down and enjoy time more often. It seems like we live in a rats race !! I think I am ready to put it in neutral and enjoy life, time and make it so Life is Simply Good !! :)

Time can be fickle - racing by exhilerating moment, and ponderously slow with life’s most difficult moments. But time truly marches on. Sometimes I think about my 53 years as a fleeting moment. Then I think back the last twenty as I try to put the next twenty in perspective. Thanks for the ‘thought angel’.

I just posted without checking my spelling. Wish I could have that moment back. See how often I use the word moment - stream of consciousness or revealing slip? Back in a moment.
